China targets Japanese companies over military ties
The Marines need hardened prepositioning sites in the Philippines to offset malevolent Chinese intentions, Lt. Gen. Roger Turner said at a conference in San Diego.
The move will expand day-to-day US coordination with Philippine army counterparts, including joint planning, training support and infrastructure work and enabling more consistent engagement.
Manila expects the radars to expand surveillance coverage, improve early detection and tracking of surface contacts, and enhance coordination in maritime operations, as tensions persist with China.
